About Us
The Freedom From Hunger Project (FFHP) is a volunteer information and outreach effort in support of solving the problem of hunger and malnutrition.
The organizational framework of FFHP is centered on the Freedom From Hunger Campaign (FFHC). Launched in 1960 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), FFHC was the first and largest ever global movement to raise awareness of the problem of hunger and malnutrition and possible solutions to that problem. The campaign involved governments, governmental agencies, millions of individuals, thousands of non-governmental organizations, religious and community groups, private industry and a host of other participants working in common cause. FFHC was central to the development of the modern international development movement and in many ways is still with us today.
The Freedom From Hunger Project seeks to identify participants in FFHC and related efforts, collect and share information on their efforts, educate and inform on development and humanitarian efforts, and stimulate action. Project interests include contemporary development efforts, particularly where information and education initiatives stimulate new interest and action.
If you or your organization was involved in FFHC or other innovative action, share your story here. Information will be reproduced by permission only. FFHP in an information and outreach effort only, and DOES NOT PROVIDE FUNDING to outside organizations or projects.
The Freedom From Hunger Project is not affiliated with FAO, but wishes to recognize the important work of the organization and to thank the librarians and archivists at FAO who facilitated some of the research supporting FFHP.
